February – Celebrating 65 Years of Saving Lives
Sixty-five years, 3 million blood donations, 9 million lives saved. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of blood donors, blood drive hosts, healthcare partners, financial contributors, volunteers, employees and the community-at-large. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 marked Bonfils Blood Center’s 65th anniversary which was commemorated with congratulatory remarks from State Rep. Spencer Swalm, R-Centennial, and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper on the west steps of the Colorado State Capitol and donor celebrations throughout the day.

May – Community Lifelines
More than a year ago, Kevin Malpocker began a five-month hospital stay where he was diagnosed and treated for a rare blood disorder. During the course of his treatment Kevin endured five surgeries and received more than 80 units of blood. Kevin met 25 of his blood donors at Bonfils Blood Center’s 10th annual Community Lifelines event in May. In addition, scores of people from Parker Adventist Hospital, University of Colorado Hospital, The Medical Center of Aurora and Bonfils Blood Center gathered in celebration of Kevin’s recovery.
 
 
June – Southern Colorado Community Partner Appreciation Reception
Hundreds of high-gallon blood donors, financial contributors, blood drive hosts, volunteers and community partners were recognized in June at Bonfils’ annual southern Colorado appreciation reception. Honorees heard from Michael J. Stenger, president and CEO of St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, Colo. who discussed the importance of partnership between Bonfils and the hospital. For nearly 20 years, Bonfils Blood Center has been the sole provider of blood products to St. Mary-Corwin. Six special awards for Community Partner, Foundation Leadership, Youth Service, Liaison of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Outstanding Blood Drive Growth were also presented.
