Since 1943, Bonfils Blood Center has quietly assured patients in every community that if they arrive at the hospital for scheduled surgery or through the emergency room, blood or blood products will be on the shelves. Financial donations help ensure critical blood shortages do not occur. 

As a nonprofit organization, financial contributions to Bonfils are tax-deductible.

Workplace giving and matching gifts programs provide an easy way to help ensure a readily available blood supply for our state and empowers employees to foster personal philanthropic connections with the local charities that matter most to them.

Workplace Giving
Bonfils Blood Center partners with Community Health Charities to participate in workplace giving fairs and programs in the public and private sectors. Bonfils also receives community funding from donations made through the United Way and Community Shares of Colorado.

Contact your employer to find out if your company hosts giving campaigns that allow employees to designate a set monthly or one-time monetary gift to be deducted from your paycheck and directed to Bonfils or the charity of your choice.

Distributing your donation over the course of a year allows smaller, more manageable amounts to be deducted from your paycheck. It’s an easy and convenient way to make a positive impact in the community.

Matching Gifts
Matching gifts are a simple way to increase your financial support. Many corporations and businesses match the philanthropic gifts of their employees. Some companies also match volunteer hours with monetary donations to the agency. Guidelines differ from company to company, so check with your Human Resources office for details.

Bonfils' Monthly Lifesavers are financial donors who have committed to giving recurring, monthly online gifts. Giving even a small amount every month adds up in a big way. When you join the Bonfils Monthly Lifesavers, you become part of a group of committed individuals dedicated to keeping the community blood supply safe and reliable.

Monthly giving provides a steady and cost-effective source of income to Bonfils. Also, because your monthly donation is processed automatically, you help us reduce our costs – which allows us to provide more funding to blood center programs and initiatives and help more patients in need. You can become a Monthly Lifesaver for as little as $5 a month. All monthly gifts – no matter the size – have a profound impact on Bonfils.

  • $5 per month – or $60 annually – will cover the cost to test one unit of platelets for unique blood properties that could benefit immune-compromised patients.
  • $15 per month – or $180 annually – will cover the cost of supplies needed to collect 12 whole blood donations – one each month you donate.
  • $25 per month – or $300 annually – will cover the cost for Bonfils' Marrow Program to add 3 potential stem cell/marrow donors to the Be The Match Registry®.
  • $50 per month – or $600 annually – will save and enhance up to 9 lives by covering the cost of getting 3 units of blood from volunteer blood donor to patients in need.

As an online monthly donor, you will register to make a credit card donation every month. After you make your initial donation, future donations will be charged every month to your credit card. For example, if you choose to make a monthly donation of $50 today, your next donation of $50 will be automatically charged to your account in exactly one month to the day, and each subsequent month thereafter. You will receive an annual statement by mail with all your contribution details in the first quarter (January–March) of every year.

Belle Bonfils Legacy Society
In the early 1940’s, Dr. Osgoode Philpott and philanthropist Helen G. Bonfils recognized the need to establish a blood bank in Colorado. Pulling together a diverse group of community-minded people, they founded Denver's first community blood bank.

Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Bank (now Bonfils Blood Center), named after Helen's beloved mother, opened February 27, 1943. In honor of the legacy these philanthropists established so long ago, the Belle Bonfils Legacy Society was founded for those who wish to support Bonfils with a planned gift.
